“Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F” Spoiler Review

As a huge fan of the first two “Beverly Hills Cops” movies, and someone who didn’t hate the third, I was worried about watching this. Not many movies have good sequels after such a long break.

The original “Beverly Hills Cop” came out in 1984, with part 3 in 1994. So we haven’t seen Axel Foley and friends in 30 years.

My overall Grade for this film is 7.5, worth a watch, don’t go running though.

I’m going to start with the bad news:

There is nothing special about this film. It’s a by-the-numbers comedy action movie. You can see pretty much every twist coming from a mile away.

Axel has an estranged daughter who live and works in Beverly Hills, that’s what gets him to return….lame.

Rosewood and Taggart returned, which was cool. But along with Foley, they weren’t anywhere near as funny as the old days.

Also, the villain is super lame with barely any backstory, and you’ll know he’s the villain the second he pops up on screen.

Stupid name! Why not just call it Beverly Hills Cop 4?!

Now the good news:

It’s still better than most movies I’ve seen recently. Sure it’s basic and probably not necessary.

There was no agenda being shoved down my throat like most movies these days.

Seeing Eddie Murphy back as Axel was fun, same for Rosewood and Taggart, even tho I was hoping for more.

No characters were ruined, which happens in many sequels now. Two quick examples being Luke Skywalker and Indiana Jones.
