James Gunn Talks Creating on Digital Compares to Film & More

The CEO of DC Studios, creator of the “Guardians of the Galaxy” and “Peacemaker” franchises, James Gunn took to Threads today. He shares a lot of cool stuff with fans on there.

Today, Gunn was asked “do you miss shooting on film?”

He replied-

“I miss SOME of the look of film (although I feel the look we’re creating now on digital is the best and most cinematic yet - after years of trying).

But I could never shoot the shots I’ve been getting on traditional film cameras due to their size and unwieldliness, especially in action scenes - it’s not physically possible.

So the freedom in movement is worth the trade for me (and being able to do 40 minute takes - which I do a lot! - is a nice bonus.)”

Gunn also shared a BTS pic from the upcoming “Superman:” The film is set to his theaters July 22, 2025.

James Gunn is an accomplished American filmmaker known for his work in both the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the DC Extended Universe. He is credited with directing the "Guardians of the Galaxy" films for Marvel, which were well-received by both critics and audiences.

Gunn also wrote and directed "The Suicide Squad" for DC, showcasing his versatility in the superhero genre. Apart from his work in the comic book realm, Gunn has also delved into horror with films like "Slither" and "The Belko Experiment."

His distinct style often blends humor with action, making his films stand out in the crowded field of blockbuster cinema.
