Shyamalan’s Latest Thriller/Horror “Trap” (Spoiler Free) Movie Review
The latest M. Night Shyamalan film, “Trap”, was released in theaters over the weekend. It stars Josh Hartnett, who does a fantastic job as the father, Cooper. I didn’t know he had that in him. Ariel Donoghue gives a solid performance as his daughter, Riley, even though she got the least time to work with out of the main cast.
It’s a simple plot. The father and daughter go to a big concert of a singer she loves. The singer, Lady Raven, was played by M. Knight’s daughter, Saleka. I read “she’s only there because of her Dad”, and even if that is, she did a very good job, basically carrying the movie along with Hartnett.
Actually, the plot is not that simple, because Cooper is hiding a very dangerous secret. One that could easily ruin his life. There’s not much more I can say without getting into spoilers, which I won’t.
But here’s the biggest problem with “Trap”. It was marketed wrong. It’s not a horror/thriller, or maybe it is, depending on the actual definition. But it’s more like 5% Horror, 15% Drama & 80% Thriller.
So I totally understand horror fans being upset. It’s definitely worth checking out IMO. Definitely don’t rush to a theater, though. It’s more of a “stream when it shows up” kind of movie.

“Trap” currently has a critics score on Rotten Tomatoes of 56% with an audience score of 65%.
“Trap” was written, directed, and produced by M. Night Shyamalan. Also starring Hayley Mills, and Alison Pill. The film was theatrically released in the United States by Warner Bros. Pictures on August 2, 2024.
It received mixed reviews from critics and has grossed $73.3 million worldwide.
