Wrestlenomics’ Thurston Saw More WWE Shirts Than AEW at Dynamite
Brandon Thurston is the guy EVERYONE goes to for television ratings, when it comes to pro wrestling. So it’s super weird seeing him getting attacked by AEW fans over a statement he made.
There are a lot of biased people in the PW business, he’s not one of them. Thurston is a numbers guy, who literally just went to AEW Dynamite.
But he made the mistake of saying this, which pissed of AEW marks.
What struck me most, though... There were a lot of CM Punk shirts. There were many WWE shirts. AEW shirts, for any AEW talent or brand, were the minority.
The idea that there are AEW fans, exclusive of being WWE fans, is clearly an idea that exists online and meaningfully only online, if Buffalo is any indication.
Fans are calling him out for being biased towards WWE. It’s real simple though, look at his timeline you goofs. Maybe you’re biased if you can’t handle facts that come from a guy who posts facts daily….you sicko’s.
Odd fact, I went to two AEW shows last year and it was almost impossible to find merch. My brother waited for a half hour before giving up. Something AEW needs to look into, but they won’t, it’s been happening forever.

To be fair, there’s not many in the business so Thurston must confuse fans.

But first I have to mention the attendance. There were no fans in the middle bowl 200-level seats at Key Bank Center on Wednesday night, except for some accumulated opposite the hard cam. Also opposite the hard cam, the 100 level was densely crowded, as you’d expect.
Attendance was more parse in the rest of the lower bowl. There were no fans at all in the 300 level. The latest WrestleTix estimate as I write this is 4,045, but I wouldn’t be surprised if the attendance was lower as many sections were tarped which might not have been accounted for.
