Top 10 Horror Movies of All Time

This list idea comes from my friend and podcast partner “The Horror King” Gary. Who doesn’t love horror movies? Ok, sure, some people. But if you’re not one of them, you should enjoy this!

Let us know your thoughts in the comment section.

#10: ATM

I’m leading off with a personal favorite that I’m guessing not many people have seen. In “ATM” an unsuspecting group of friends find themselves trapped in a nerve-wracking game of cat and mouse.

They decide to make a quick stop at an isolated ATM booth in an attempt to withdraw some cash. Little do they know that this seemingly routine pit stop will turn into a bone-chilling encounter of terror!

#9: The Hills Have Eyes 2006

This is a remake of Wes Craven's 1977 cult classic, which this author has never seen. Feel free to bash me in the comments! This 2006 version was fantastic tho, creepy, scary, creepy and even more creepy. There is one scene (with the gun/baby/sex) that I still have to turn away from whenever I’m watching.

When am ordinary family embarks on a road trip through the vast and desolate American Southwest, they inadvertently stumble into an isolated and abandoned nuclear testing zone. Unbeknownst to them, sinister forces lurk in the unforgiving hills.

#8: Hostel

I’m more of a horror-thriller fan, unlike my friend “The Horror King” who is always out for blood! But Hostel is one of those movies that really creeps me out, not enough for me to stop watching tho. The film follows three adventurous backpackers who are about to discover a nightmare they never could have imagined.

"Hostel" gripped audiences worldwide upon its release, earning its place as a cult classic in the horror genre. With its visceral gore, shocking plot twists, and unrelenting terror, this film is not for the faint of heart.

#7: Turistas

In the gripping horror-thriller featuring Josh Duhamel, a group of adventurous young backpackers embarks on the journey of a lifetime, only to discover that their paradise escape quickly transforms into a relentless nightmare!

When a bus accident strands a diverse group of friends in an isolated Brazilian village, they initially find solace among the warm-hearted locals. Drawn to the alluring natural wonders of the area, including hidden caves and vibrant nightlife, the tourists set out to explore, unknowingly walking into a web of danger weaved by a ruthless network of organ traffickers.

#6: Paranormal Activity

The original found-footage film follows a young couple as they move into their dream home. Totally unaware of the malevolent presence that lurks within its walls.

At first, it's innocent enough—doors creaking, objects mysteriously relocating. But as the nights grow darker, the supernatural occurrences intensify, delving deeper into the realm of the unimaginable.

#5: Wolf Creek

Based on true events, "Wolf Creek" weaves a gripping narrative around the notorious Mick Taylor. A deranged serial killer who preys upon unsuspecting tourists venturing deep into the vast and desolate outback. When a group of international backpackers find themselves stranded without a way out, they quickly realize they are about to become Mick's next victims.

I’d also recommend part 2 and the tv series.

#4: Sinister:

This movie features an awesome performance by Ethan Hawke. Where he immerses himself in the sinister world of psychological thrillers, proving once more his ability to captivate audiences and leave them on the edge of their seats.

The allure of sinister movies lies in their ability to exploit the darker aspects of human nature. Strong storytelling combined with an actor of Hawke's caliber promises an unforgettable experience. His mere presence on screen carries a power that keeps viewers enthralled, waiting with bated breath for what comes next.

#3: Get Out:

One of my favorite movies of all time, terrifying, creepy and very creative. Especially incredible performances by Catherine Keener and Daniel Kaluuya. "Get Out" is a groundbreaking psychological thriller written and directed by Jordan Peele. This critically acclaimed film is a captivating blend of horror, satire, and social commentary.

#2: Misery:

Released in 1990 and based on Stephen King's chilling novel, "Misery" is a psychological thriller that takes audiences on a haunting journey into the depths of one writer's worst nightmare. Directed by Rob Reiner and starring James Caan and Kathy Bates, this film delivers a captivating story that leaves viewers on the edge of their seats.

Her portrayal earned her a well-deserved Academy Award for Best Actress, solidifying her status as one of the most memorable antagonists in cinematic history.

#1: Night of the Living Dead (1968):

There are not many movies I’m too afraid to re-watch, but this is one. George A. Romero's groundbreaking film forever changed the landscape of horror cinema. Amazingly shot on a shoestring budget of just $114,000, the black-and-white masterpiece left an indelible mark on pop culture and societal commentary.

Romero's use of slow-moving zombies revolutionized the genre, creating an enduring archetype that is still replicated today.
