“I would have to say that this is the Mania that I have been looking forward to the most, since I attended myself at WM31. It’s exciting to still be enjoying watching and writing about wrestling at 37 years old, and the whole wrestling business has really lifted their game in the last 6 months, despite the division between certain fan bases which is pretty petty.

It’s a huge weekend for WWE and I am going to try as much to catch as much live as I can, which can be difficult in Australia when the PLEs start around 9-10am.”- Kristian

WrestleMania 40 Night 1 Predictions

  • Main Event: The Rock & Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes & Seth Rollins

I’ll admit I was pretty angry when ‘The Final Boss’ inserted himself into this feud. I thought he was taking Rhodes’ spot but he has absolutely played this to perfection and his heel work has gone to another level. The Rock has shone, well above the other 3 performers and I think it’s pretty clear now that he’s not turning on the Bloodline.

The shenanigans will come on Night 2 with some involvement to help Rhodes win during Bloodline Rules, so I see Rock and Reigns winning here. I think it will be chaotic and with interference galore.

Should be a lot of fun. It certainly has the star power for the headline match of Night 1, but I feel that there are other talent that deserve it more, especially since Reigns/Rhodes will headline Night 2.

Kristian: The Rock & Roman Reigns

Sam: Rock & Reigns

JaySin: Rock & Roman

Larry: The Rock & Roman Reigns

Robles: Cody & Seth

  • Women's World Championship: Rhea Ripley (c) vs. Becky Lynch

I really want Ripley to retain here. I think she’s a level above Lynch, who has been at or around the top for a long time and doesn’t interest me that much anymore.

Great wrestler, but she has a bland character and has really faced everyone there is apart from Jade. I think they could have a match that is as good as Charlotte vs Ripley from last year’s Mania.

Kristian: Winner AND STILL Women’s World Champion: Rhea Ripley

Sam: Rhea Ripley

JaySin: Rhea Ripley

Larry: Rhea Ripley

Robles: Rhea Ripley

  • Intercontinental Championship: Gunther (c) vs. Sami Zayn

I’m glad Zayn is featured in another prominent match at WM. My interest isn’t that high with this match up however. I love Gunther but was hoping for him to face someone a little more high-profile (no, not Lesnar).

This could easily be the best wrestling match of the night but I don’t see Zayn winning. He has had his huge WM moment and there’s no need for Gunther to lose yet.

Kristian: Winner AND STILL Intercontinental Champion: Gunther

Sam: Gunther

JaySin: Sami Zayn

Larry: Sami Zayn

Robles: Gunther

  • Jey Uso vs. Jimmy Uso

This would have more heat if they actually didn’t book Jummy like a loser 90% of the time. All he does is interfere in Jey’s matches or jump Rhodes. They should’ve been giving him big wins, like Jey has had (except for all his losses to Drew). I think this opens the show and it’s clear that WWE think Jey is the bigger star so he will win.

Kristian: Jey Uso

Sam: Jimmy

JaySin: Jey

Larry: Jey Uso

Robles: Jey

  • Six-Pack ladder match for Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships: Judgment Day (Damian Priest & Finn Bálor) vs. Awesome Truth (The Miz & R-Truth) vs. DIY (Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa) vs. New Day (Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods) vs. New Catch Republic (Pete Dunne & Tyler Bate) vs. A-Town Down Under (Austin Theory & Grayson Waller)

This could be a mess, in a good way. There’s been a bit of speculation that both sets of titles will be hanging and two separate teams will grab them, once again splitting the titles. I wouldn’t mind that, as there should be Tag Titles on both shows.

I’m not sure how that will go down with the live crowd UNLESS R-Truth and Miz win at least one of the titles. Miz sucks but Truth is finally growing on me, now that he is away from that awful 24/7 title rubbish. I’m actually not clambering for any particular team to win this match- no one really interests me if I’m honest.

I do like DIY but their crowd reactions aren’t that great. I wish Bronson Reed was on the show and teaming with someone. It would’ve been a better match with some of the LWO or LDF involved.

Kristian: Winners AND NEW Undisputed WWE Tag Team Champions: Awesome Truth

Sam: Awesome Truth

JaySin: Judgement Day

Larry: Judgement Day

Robles: Judgement Day

  • Bianca Belair, Naomi & Jade Cargill vs. Damage CTRL (Dakota Kai, Asuka & Kairi Sane)

This is the lock of the night. Jade dominates and pins Kai, making her an instant star. Onto the next match!

Kristian: Bianca Belair, Naomi & Jade

Sam: Bianca, Naomi & Jade

JaySin: Bianca, Naomi & Jade

Larry: Bianca, Naomi, & Jade

Robles: Bianca, Naomi & Jade

  • Rey Mysterio & Dragon Lee vs. Santos Escobar & Dominik Mysterio

This feels underwhelming. Tossed together 2 weeks out from the show, I’m not dying for another Mysterios feud. They should’ve made it an LWO/LDF war if they wanted to get more people on the show.

I think Carlito turns on Rey here for not selecting him as his tag partner and Dominik gets his revenge from losing last year.

Kristian: Santos Escobar & Dominik Mysterio

Sam: Santos & Dom

JaySin: Rey Mysterio & Dragon Lee

Larry: Rey & Dragon Lee

Robles: Santos & Dom

  • Undisputed WWE Universal Championship: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Cody Rhodes

Here we are again! Surely, surely it’s the time for Rhodes. I think by the time we get to this, it will be under Bloodline Rules because of Rock/Reigns winning on Night 1.

I think this match will have interference galore. I don’t see Rollins turning on Rhodes. That’s unnecessary. I do see the Bloodline beating the tar out of Rhodes, only for some of the wrestlers that have been screwed over by Reigns over the last 3 ½ years to come down and even the score.

There’s even talk of Stone Cold coming down and blocking the Rock from taking out Rhodes; as a little throwback to their WM history. As much as I have absolutely loved Reigns’ title reign (even if he has been absent for extended periods of time and missed some PLEs), the time for a change is now.

If the WWE really wants to push Rhodes to ‘the spot’ he has to win here and I feel he will.

Kristian: Winner AND NEW WWE Undisputed Universal Champion: Cody Rhodes

Sam: Cody

JaySin: Roman Reigns

Larry: Cody Rhodes

Robles: Roman

  • World Heavyweight Championship: Seth Rollins (c) vs. Drew McIntyre

Apart from Heel Rock, McIntyre is the best thing about the WWE at the moment. He is on top of his game in the ring, on the mic and being a social media pest. McIntyre wins and sets up a feud with Punk for the summer. Bring it on!

Kristian: Drew McIntyre

Sam: Drew

JaySin: Drew

Larry: Drew McIntyre

Robles: Seth Rollins

  • WWE Women's Championship: Iyo Sky (c) vs. Bayley

I thought this would’ve been a good choice to close out Night 1 but it is going to be in the middle of Night 2, amongst other huge moments, which is a shame for Bayley as she has been brilliant.

I think this is almost the biggest lock for the whole show and I think her title win will get a huge reaction. It’s been a great feud and she deserves to cap it off with a big moment.

Kristian: Bayley

Sam: Bayley

JaySin: Bayley

Larry: Bayley

Robles: Iyo Sky

  • United States Championship Triple Threat: Logan Paul (c) vs. Randy Orton vs. Kevin Owens

This feels beneath Randy Orton after the fun little run he’s been on since returning at Survivor Series. I’ve never been a massive fan, but he seems refreshed and enjoying his work again. I’m a big fan of Logan and now that he’s a full-timer, he needs a big win like this. Pinning the Viper at WM will achieve that.

Kristian: Logan Paul

Sam: Paul

JaySin: Paul

Larry: Kevin Owens

Robles: Randy Orton

  • LA Knight vs. AJ Styles

I think this is a feud that hasn’t garnered a huge amount of attention. LA Knight is pretty popular now and I thought they would’ve used his new-found fan favouritism to overthrow Paul or Gunther but they’ve gone for a singles match against the all-of-a-sudden massive AJ Styles who has lived in the gym since his injury.

His Mania matches have often fallen short of the quality delivered and Knight is good but not as great as Styles’ previous opponents such as Edge and Nakamura, so I don’t see this being a classic either. Knight to win.

Kristian: LA Knight

Sam: LA Knight

JaySin: LA Knight

Larry: LA Knight

Robles: AJ Styles

  • Bobby Lashley & The Street Profits (Montez Ford & Angelo Dawkins) vs. The Final Testament (Karrion Kross & The Authors of Pain (Akam & Rezar)

I am glad that Lashley and Kross are back on the card. I have actually really enjoyed this feud and for me AoP are great. I hope they get a shot in the tag division this year as I loved their NXT work. They have mostly dominated this feud so I think Lashley and friends will win. I’m not sure what that means going forward for The Final Testament.

Kristian: Lashley & Street Profits

Sam: Lashley & Street Profits

JaySin: The Final Testament

Larry: Lashley & Street Profits

Robles: The Final Testament
